Traditional Red Lentil Dahl

1 large onion, finely chopped

2 garlic cloves, crushed

2 teaspoons grated ginger

2 teaspoons Screaming Seeds Garam Masala or Kashmiri Krush spice blend

1 cup red lentils

3½ cups vegetable stock

¾ cup coconut milk (optional)


  1. Sauté onion, garlic and ginger for a few minutes or until soft
  2. Add Screaming Seeds Garam Masala or Kashmiri Krush and sauté gently for two more minutes
  3. Add the red lentils, stirring well for 5 minutes, then add stock
  4. Bring to boil, then partially cover and simmer for approximately 30 minutes or until lentils are soft and stock is nearly absorbed. Add more stock if needed
  5. If using coconut milk, stir in now and heat through gently

Serve warm with papadums or toasted pita bread chips with natural yoghurt.
